We have created a self-led training workshop, looking at Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing – this was a partnership project with Tom Tait from WhyMind so that Churches and Diocese can run training for free.
The workshop is very simple to navigate and can be run by anyone who knows how to operate a laptop and screen! There are interactive buttons that appear as you watch.
The training starts the same for everyone, then there are two pathways to choose from within the training, depending on the audience you have:
One training path is for Children, Family/Youth leaders, which has a greater focus on the spiritual aspects and is a great opportunity to equip and empower your volunteers.
The other is for parents – this has less spiritual and more practical ideas for parents to use. This session is an ideal way to help Churches engage with local parents.
During the training, there are questions for the group to consider and chat through (or for individuals to think through themselves). These are opportunities to press pause on the video and take 5 minutes to chat. Not only does this help to keep everyone’s attention, it also makes the training more relevant to your group’s setting. Keep a tight reign on time during these chats so the session doesn’t last all night! You can always pick up conversations at the end for those who want to stay on.
Make sure when presenting, to scroll to the bottom of the screen and click full-screen mode by using the arrows at the bottom right of your screen. We also recommend that you watch the video in full before presenting it so that you are familiar with the topics and the places where you can pause to chat.
It can also be given as a link to parents/volunteers to watch at home – but we would suggest that it works much better in a small group setting.
